In June of '99, the year I found Ole Yellar - a friend invited me for supper - I said sure - I was just loafing about - and agreed to ride over for supper. Turned out that the ride was 245 miles each way - left home about 1 in the afternoon - cruised over - had supper with some good friends and then about 9 pm rolled through gathering twilight and then darkness headed for home.
Knowing that gas stations might present a problem, and that I had one stretch of 105 miles with only small towns I cut my speed back to the double nickle for the ride home.
Quite a ride - quite a dinner - quite a ride
So 490 miles for a steak is my best in one day
